Morgan selected for Perfect Game All-American Classic

OTTAWA- Junior National Team outfielder Gareth Morgan (Toronto, ON) is one of 50 up-and-coming high school seniors selected to participate in the Perfect Game All-American Classic Presented by Rawlings.

The game, scheduled for August 11th at Petco Park in San Diego, is generally known as the premier high school baseball All-Star game in North America and has been in existence for 11 years.

Previously known as the Aflac All-American High School Baseball Classic, the game has an impressive list of alumni including former number one overall picks Justin Upton, Bryce Harper and Gerrit Cole along with current MLB stars Andrew McCutchen, Buster Posey, Matt Harvey and Jason Heyward.

“It’s an honour to be selected to participate in this game,” said Morgan who is the first Canadian ever selected to play in the Perfect Game All-American Classic. “The opportunity to play with and against the top high school talent in North America on a big-league stage is something that I am really looking forward to.”

Morgan has been a member of the Junior National Team since 2010 when he attended the Fall Instructional League Camp as a 14 year-old.

In August 2011, as a 15 year-old, he became the youngest player to ever participate in the Under Armour All-American game at Wrigley Field in Chicago.

Later that year, Morgan represented Canada at the 2011 COPBABE 18U World Cup Qualifier in Colombia and in 2012 he was a member of Canada’s silver medal winning entry at the IBAF 18U World Cup in South Korea.

Morgan, now 17, will have the opportunity to represent Canada later this summer when the Junior National Team participates in the IBAF 18U World Cup August 30th-September 8th in Taichung, Taiwan.

Morgan will be eligible for the 2014 MLB First Year Player Draft.

For the first time ever, the Perfect Game All-American Classic will be televised on live on MLB Network August 11th at 5pm ET.
