PanAm Qualifier: Canada bounces back with landslide victory over Peru

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina – Canada improved their record to 2 wins and 1 loss at the WBSC Americas Pan Am Qualifying tournament with a stunning 11-1 victory over Peru. The Canadians scored eleven runs on twelve hits and committed no errors in the ballgame.

The Canadian offence was locked in from the start, taking advantage of eleven walks permitted by Peru while only going down on strikes twice over the course of the 7-inning game.

Karl Gélinas (Laval, QC) was the starter on the mound for Team Canada keeping Peru’s bats off balance for four innings, permitting only a run on five hits with no walks and no strikeouts.

Jake Sanford (Dartmouth, NS) led the offence with a 4-for-4 performance with two RBIs and a run scored. Jordan Procyshen (Calgary, AB) continued to swing a hot bat at the plate, collecting two hits and a pair of RBIs. Wes Darvill (Richmond, BC) also had a notable performance at the plate, finishing his day 1-for-4 with a walk, two runs scored and two RBIs.  

Jesen Therrien (Montreal, QC) was the first Canadian arm out of the bullpen, shutting down the Peruvian offence over an inning and two thirds collecting a pair of strikeouts in the process. Jake Polancic (Abbostford, BC) closed out the game for Canada, working an inning and a third where he permitted only a hit and a walk while striking out three.

Canada resumes action tomorrow against Honduras in their last round robin game of the tournament.
