Senior Women: Two no-hitter’s highlight day three

Round-robin action has concluded at the Senior Women Invitational in Spruce Grove with semi-final and medal games taking place tomorrow.

In the first semi-final Alberta will meet BC, while Ontario and Québec will clash in the second game.

Ontario’s Tylin Lee and Kathryn Kennaley cpmbined for a no-hitter agaisnt Québec, while later in the day Alberta’s Tara Sliwkanich pulled off the same feat against BC.

Here is a recap of today’s action:

Ontario 3 Québec 1

Team Ontario pitcher Tylin Lee (Toronto, ON) and Kathryn Kennaley (Burlington, ON) combined for a no-hitter in a 3-1 victory over Québec. Lee threw the first five innings, while Kennaley came on for the final two with Québec’s only run coming on a fielder’s choice after three walks in the fourth. Ontario jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first after Kate Psota’s (Burlington, ON) double plated two runs and they would add another in the fourth when Ashley Stephenson (Mississauga, ON) drew a walk with the bases loaded.

Alberta 13 BC 0

Tara Sliwkanich (Fort Saskatchewan, AB) tossed five, no-hit innings giving up only a walk, while striking out one as Alberta earned a mercy-shortened 13-0 win over BC. Alberta had a 5-0 lead after three innings and added eight runs in the fourth before Sliwkanich shutdown BC in the top of the fifth to end the game. Bradi Wall (Swift Current, SK) as she went 3-for-4 with a double and four RBIs, while Nicole Luchanksi (Edmonton, AB) and Melissa Armstrong (Saskatoon, SK) each had two hits and two RBIs. Rayna Miller (Calgary, AB) also counted for a single and three RBIs.

Ontario 17 West 1

Ontario pounded out seventeen hits as they recorded their third win of the tournament with a 17-1 drubbing of Team West. Tiffany Koniecki (Mississauga, ON) led the charge with a 4-for-5 day at the plate and four RBIs. Kathryn Kennaley (Burlington, ON) and Hannah Martensen (Ottawa, ON) each picked up a double to go along with three RBIs. Cindy Saavedra (Toronto, ON) earned the win on the mound as she tossed five innings and struck out six.

BC 8 Québec 6

BC scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth and held on for an 8-6 win over Québec to clinch first place after the round robin. Katelyn Bedwell’s (Surrey, BC) double scored two runs to give BC the lead in the sixth and Amanda Asay (Prince George, BC) shut Québec down in the top of the seventh to record the win. Québec’s Stephanie Savoie (Québec, QC) kept her strong tournament going with a 3-for-4 performance and scored two runs.
