The DQ® 13U National Atlantic Championship gets started September 8th

Ottawa, ON – There is still one more gold title up for grabs as Baseball Canada’s championship season winds down. Mount Pearl, NL will play host to the DQ® 13U National Atlantic Championship set to get underway September 8th.

The Championship is also the last of three Dairy Queen® Canada sponsored events, the product of a partnership between DQ® and Baseball Canada that came to fruition back in May. London, ON and Saskatoon, SK hosted the two previous DQ® events that saw Canada’s most talented young players come together to celebrate the game of baseball.

At the last event of the summer, the four Atlantic Provinces will each be sending two teams to battle it out for gold. Newfoundland and Labrador will be represented by St. John’s and, the host team, Mount Pearl. Defending champs Nova Scotia will look to make it back to back wins for the province with the help of Hammonds Plain and Tri County. To round out the group, Port City and Riverview will serve as New Brunswick’s representatives while Mid-Isle and Capital District represent Prince Edward Island.

Last year’s event in Yarmouth, NS saw the host team take silver as Dartmouth came out on top by a score of 13-4 in the gold medal game. Summerside took bronze with a 12-2 win over Mount Pearl who will be looking to bounce back this year and give Newfoundland and Labrador their first medal at the event since the bronze won by St. John’s in 2009.

Heading into the 8th consecutive 13U National Atlantic Championship, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia sit tied as the all time medal leaders with 8 a piece.
