Three Canadians make it on Baseball America’s Top 100 HS Prospects list

OTTAWA – Baseball America has unveiled its annual Top 100 High School Prospects list and three Canadians have been included.

Kellin Deglan (Langley, BC) is the highest ranked Canadian on the prospect list, coming in at number 66. Joining Deglan is Evan Grills (Whitby, ON) who is ranked at number 75 and Evan Rutckyj (Windsor, ON) who cracked the list at number 99.

Deglan is a 6-foot-2, 190 pound, 17-year-old catcher with the Canadian Junior National Team. During a Summer International Series in 2009 against the USA Collegiate National Team and the Cuban Junior National Team, Deglan had a home run and four RBI in nine games played.

Grills, who was a member of the Junior National Team at the 2008 World Junior Baseball Championship in Edmonton, Alberta, is 17-years-old and stands at 6-foot-5, 205 pound.

The left-handed pitcher went 1-1 with a 3.45 ERA in three games (two starts) at the 2008 World Juniors.

Rutckyj is a 6-foot-6, 215 pound left handed pitcher and is a former draft pick of the Windsor Spitfires of the Ontario Hockey League.  Rutckyj was a member of the Junior National Team that participated in the Summer International Series last season.  In four relief appearances, he allowed nine runs, three earned runs, over four innings of work for a 6.75 ERA, with six walks and two strikeouts.
