Votto added to World Baseball Classic roster

OTTAWA-Rosters for the 16 participating countries in the 2013 World Baseball Classic were announced today by WBCI and Canada’s roster includes Joey Votto (Etobicoke, ON) of the Cincinnati Reds. Votto, the 2010 National League MVP, was the final player added to Canada’s 28-player roster.

In 2012, Votto was on the disabled list from July 17th to September 3rd following a pair of arthroscopic surgeries on his left knee.

During Canada’s training camp, Votto will remain in Spring Training with the Reds where he will continue to be monitored by team staff. Votto and the Reds will make a decision with regards to his participation in the tournament prior to Canada’s first game on March 8th against Italy.

Canada will open training camp on March 4th in Goodyear, Arizona and play the Milwaukee Brewers (March 5th) and Cincinnati Reds (March 6th) in exhibition games.

Canada’s remaining first round games will take place on March 9th against Mexico and March 10th against the United States. Both match-ups are slated for Chase Field in Phoenix.
