WNT: Final tune-up game rained out

St. Albert, AB-The Women’s National Team and Team USA managed only an inning and a third before heavy rain and lightning forced the cancellation of an exhibition game as both teams prepare for the IBAF Women’s Baseball World Cup August 10-19 in Edmonton.

Tara Sliwkanich (Fort Saskatchewan, AB) tossed a scoreless first inning before the US score three time in the top of the second inning on two walks that came with the bases loaded and a sacrifice fly that saw a runner tag and score from third base.

After the third US run scored both teams were sent off the field because of lightning in the area.

“It’s unfortunate that we couldn’t get the game in as this would’ve been our first test against another team competing in the World Cup,” said Manager André Lachance. “I feel though that our team has prepared enough that we are ready to put on a good performance in front of our own fans.”

Canada will open the tournament on Friday August 10th when they take on Chinese Taipei at 10:30pm ET at TELUS Field in Edmonton.
