WNT Selection Camp: Canada sweeps Scarborough in double dip

HOW IT HAPPENED

-After Scarborough opened the scoring with three runs in the top of the first, Canada Black answered back with a run in the bottom of the inning and went on to add runs in all offensive innings including four and three runs in each of the second and third frames, respectively.

-Nine of ten players that Canada Red sent to the plate scored at least one run and eight of those players collected at least one RBI

-Jenna Flannigan (Cornwall, ON) led the attack with a 2-for-4 game at the plate and added three RBIs to her stat line. In the second she drove in two runs with a single to centre and in the fifth, she singled up the middle before coming around to score on a Meagan Cornelssen (Grande-Prairie, AB) double.

-On the mound, Jenna Hillman (Tecumseh, ON) started and went three innings and allowed only one earned run on three hits and a walk, while Shayla Shahsavar (Saskatoon, SK) went two innings and allowed two walks and two hits, while striking out four.

-Both pitchers limited Scarborough to just five hits, but six errors and three hits combined to bring in seven runs

Starting Pitcher: Autumn Mills

HOW IT HAPPENED

-Canada Red took control of this one early on and opened the floodgates late in the game turning a three runs lead into an eight run lead with five runs in the fifth before adding three in the sixth

-Starting pitcher Autumn Mills (London, ON) shut Scarborough down after they scored twice in the bottom of the first throwing three scoreless and she ended her four-inning outing with seven strikeouts. Amanda Asay (Prince George, BC) picked up right where Mills left off facing the minimum six batters over two innings that saw her fan four of them.

-Offensively, Miki Boyd (Surrey, BC) led the Canada Red 12 hit attack going 4-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI.

-Five players collected doubles including Bradi Wall (Swift Current, SK) whose two-bagger in the first scored both Boyd and Nicole Luchanski (Edmonton, AB) who doubled and scored in the second as Canada Red built a 5-2 lead.

-Seven Canada Red batters collected at least one hit including three players with multi-hit games, while eight players scored at least one run including Jenn Gilroy (Mississauga, ON) who crossed home plate three times.
