Women's National Team Falls to United States in Final World Cup Tune-Up

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Canada's Women's National Team wrapped up exhibition play ahead of the WBSC Women's Baseball World Cup Group Stage with a 7-1 loss to the United States on Sunday afternoon at Impact Field.

The United States broke open a scoreless game with a five-run third inning before adding two more runs to take a 7-1 lead into the seventh. 

Emily Baxter (Oakville, ON continued her strong offensive weekend, going 2-for-3 with one RBI, while Claire Eccles (White Rock, B.C.) also collected two hits as Canada finished with 8 hits.

Raine Padgham (Abbotsford, BC) got the start for Canada and was impressive through two scoreless innings, scattering just two hits while striking out four.

Canada's defence also turned two double plays in the contest.

The Women's National Team concludes exhibition play with a 1-1 record after defeating the United States 9-7 on Saturday.

Canada now turns its attention to the WBSC Women's Baseball World Cup Group Stage, which begins on Tuesday, July 22, in Rockford, Illinois. Canada opens tournament play against Hong Kong before taking on Korea (July 23), Mexico (July 24), the United States (July 25) and Australia (July 26). The top three teams in the six-team group will advance to the 2027 WBSC Women's Baseball World Cup Finals.
