Baseball Canada Names Roster for WBSC Copa América

OTTAWA – Baseball Canada is pleased to announce the roster that will participate in the upcoming WBSC Copa América, with Canada set to play in Group B from November 13–17 in La Chorrera, Panama.

The Copa América will see 12 nations compete across two groups with all games taking place in Panama. Canada joins host Panama, Puerto Rico, Colombia, Brazil, and Argentina in Group B while Group A features Cuba, Curacao, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Nicaragua and Venezuela.

All Group B games will be held at Estadio Mariano Rivera, home to one of the sport’s greatest legends and a fitting backdrop for a tournament that will award four berths to the 2027 Pan American Games in Lima.

Led by Ernie Whitt who will be managing the national team for the 22nd time in his career, Canada’s roster features a familiar core of national-team standouts alongside a new wave of talent eager to make their mark on the international stage.

Headlining the list of veterans for Canada are Ben Abram (Georgetown, ON), Phillippe Aumont (Gatineau, QC), Landen Bourassa (Lethbridge, AB), Kellin Deglan (Langley, BC), Karl Gélinas (Laval, QC), Jonathan Malo (Stoneham, QC), Brandon Marklund (North Vancouver, BC), Scott Mathieson (Aldergrove, BC), Ben Onyshko (Winnipeg, MB), Connor Panas (Etobicoke, ON), Jordan Procyshen (Calgary, AB), Jacob Robson (Windsor, ON), Evan Rutckyj (Windsor, ON), Jake Sanford (Dartmouth, NS), and Jesen Therrien (Montréal, QC), all of whom have previously represented Canada on the international stage.

Joining them are several players set to make their Senior National Team debuts, including Junior National Team alums Harley Gollert (Toronto, ON), Evan Grills (Whitby, ON), Ryan Leitch (Whitby, ON), Nate Ochoa (Burlington, ON) and T.J. Schofield-Sam (Mississauga, ON).The roster also features first-time national-team selections Braeden Allemann (Vancouver, BC), Bryce Arnold (Hamilton, ON), David Mendham (London, ON), Nick Trogrlic-Iverson (Oakville, ON), Mathieu Vallée (Sainte-Eustache, QC), Matt Warkentin (Leamington, ON) and Christian Young (Oakville, ON).

Manager Ernie Whitt will be joined by veteran National Team coaches Denis Boucher, Tim Leiper, Greg Hamilton, and Chris Begg, forming a staff with decades of international experience guiding Canada on the world stage.

Canada will open play on November 13 against the host nation, Panama, before facing the remainder of Group B in round-robin action.

The national team will travel to Dunedin, Florida to host a three-day training camp at the Toronto Blue Jays Player Development Complex from November 7-10.
