British Columbia and Windsor Selects Capture National Titles

OTTAWA – Over the weekend, British Columbia captured gold at the Women’s National Championship in Quebec City, while the Windsor Selects, representing Ontario, did the same at the 22U National Championship in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.

Women’s National Championship

Extra innings were needed in an explosive rematch of last year’s gold medal game, with British Columbia ultimately edging Québec, 8–7.

The champions came out hot, scoring one in the first inning and three more in the second to take command early. Québec responded quickly with four runs of their own, capped by a three-run third inning.

The back-and-forth battle continued into the late innings, setting the stage for a dramatic two-RBI single by Jada Lee that brought home the tying and winning runs for BC.

Ontario Takes Home the Bronze

Earlier in the day, Team Ontario secured the bronze medal with a dominant performance over Saskatchewan.

Starter Mena Florio threw six scoreless innings, while the offense erupted for 10 runs on 15 hits to close out Ontario’s run at the Women’s National Championship.

22U National Championship

The Windsor Selects captured gold at the 22U National Championship for Team Ontario with a 2–0 win over the Halifax Mets (NS).

Two runs in the third inning proved to be all the Selects needed, as Brady Knelsen was spectacular in the gold medal game—tossing a complete-game shutout, allowing only two hits, and striking out 12 to secure the victory.

Manitoba Takes Home the Bronze

The Carillon Sultans (MB) walked off the Sarnia Brigade (ON) in a tight 7–6 affair to capture the bronze.

With two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Christopher Peters drew a walk and stole second to set the stage for Joseph Plett, who delivered the game-winning RBI single to put Manitoba on the podium at the 22U National Championship.
