Pan Am Qualifier: Despite win over Honduras, Canada’s Pan Am hopes are dashed

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina – Canada cruised by Honduras 10-0 in five innings in their last round robin game of the WBSC Americas Pan Am Qualifier. The victory was propelled by a eight run fourth inning, and a strong pitching performance.

Canada finished the round robin with a record of 3-1 and tying Panama (3-1) and host Argentina (3-1) for first place. However, due to the tournaments three-team tie-break system, known as “Team’s Quality Balance” or “TQB”, Canada will finish third and will not advance to tomorrow’s final game where a spot in the 2023 Pan Am Games baseball competition will be determined.

*The TQB is calculated this way: runs scored/inning played at bat-runs allowed/innings playing on defense.

BOX SCORE

Against Honduras, Canada scored 10 runs on seven hits and seven walks and committed no errors.

Travis Seabrooke (Peterborough, ON) toed the mound for the Canadians, dominating Honduras' bats over five innings. The lefthander allowed only a pair of hits while striking out five over his scoreless start.

Michael Crouse (Port Moody, BC) opened the scoring in the bottom of the second inning, dispatching a solo home run that gave Canada the early lead. The centerfielder would finish the day 1-for-1 with 2 RBIs, a walk and a run scored. Jake Sanford (Dartmouth, NS) came up clutch for Canada, collecting three RBIs and scoring a run over his 2-for-4 performance at the plate.
