Robson heading to the majors!

OTTAWA – Junior National Team alumus Jacob Robson had his contract purchased by the Detroit Tigers earlier today setting up the Major League Baseball debut for the 26-year-old native of Windsor, Ontario.

The Tigers are currently in Baltimore where they’re finishing a three-game series against the Orioles before travelling home to face Cleveland in Detroit.

Robson has spent the majority of the season with Triple-A Toledo where he’s hit .275 with five home runs, 23 RBI and 13 stolen bases in 51 games.

In June, Robson had an outstanding performance for Team Canada at the WBSC Baseball Americas Olympic Qualifier in Florida where he led the squad with eight hits, a .421 batting average, five RBI and added one home run in five games played.

Drafted by the Tigers in the 8th round of the 2016 MLB Draft after a standout career at Mississippi State University, Robson helped Canada win silver medals as a member of the Junior National Team at the 2011 U18 Pan Am Championships and the 2012 IBAF U18 Baseball World Cup.

He is set to become the 13th Canadian-born player to appear in the big leagues in 2021 and the 30th graduate of the Junior National Team program to reach the big leagues since 2003.
